kymHi! I’m Lucy and I love working with Leather! Actually my real name is Kym, Lucy is a nickname that just kind of stuck.  My sister (and mom) got me started in leatherworking in 2013 and I have fallen in love with it!  I love the process of taking a raw piece of leather and using my hands to create wearable art.  In addition to my mom and sister who create some fantastic looking masks and items, my husband also dabbles a little bit in leather working too.  He likes to make eye patches and bracers.  Between the four of us, we stay busy travelling to different anime conventions, conducting workshops, and managing our online stores.

One of my favorite ways to work with leather is to use a swivel knife and really dig into the leather.  That’s probably why I like making feathers and fur on an animal mask so much.  I also really like to work with different dyes!

When I am making an item, sometimes I draw a sketch first, other times I just take my swivel knife and start carving.  It’s very Zen!  I will pretty much use anything that I think will make the item look great!  I regularly use acrylics and dyes, but I also sometimes you stickers, markers, glitter and well, just about anything!
